Female athletes face this same issue: their rights vary drastically depending on what city they’re drafted to play for. Some have spoken out, like the Las Vegas Aces’ Brianna Turner, who said, “We play across four different states, but our reproductive rights vary by state.”
Further, over 70% of WNBA players are Black, and around 60% of NBA "WAGs" are Black or Black biracial. Black women are already over 3.5x more likely to die of pregnancy-related causes in the U.S., and data shows that maternal mortality skyrockets in states with abortion bans.
What happens when a child is forced into motherhood? Three girls took that question to the world's highest human rights bodies—and WON.
New Yorkers have guaranteed access to essential reproductive healthcare. The state's constitution also guarantees reproductive autonomy and prohibits discrimination based on pregnancy outcomes. And state law explicitly protects abortion providers, patients, and helpers.

Meanwhile, Texans live under four extreme, overlapping abortion bans—which have already claimed over a dozen women’s lives. The bans threaten doctors with up to 99 years in prison and hundreds of thousands in fines for providing abortion care, even to prevent an emergency.
This season’s championship matchup, pitting New York against Texas, perfectly illustrates just how far state laws on reproductive rights have diverged since the Supreme Court overturned Roe in 2022.
The comparison is stark. 🧵⬇️
Access to abortion pills is UNDER ATTACK. Politicians see what a lifeline mifepristone by mail has become—especially for people in states that ban abortion—and they want to eliminate it.
The right to access healthcare shouldn’t depend on your zip code, income, or jersey color. EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE deserves the right to make their own decisions about their own bodies and lives.
