A couple of weeks ago I had fun surveying #wildplants in #PaddingtonRecreationGround as part of a @citywestminster.bsky.social #bioblitz with my pal Michael & recorded 125 species. #urbannature #urbanplants
Congratulations David Lindo @theurbanbirder.bsky.social on the 20-year anniversary of The Urban Birder.π₯³ But hang on, is this David as we've never seen him before - looking down rather than up?
What did we find? A selection of plants originating from South America to the Middle East, via the Mediterranean. Highlights were two success stories - Jersey Cudweed (Gnaphalium luteo-album) and Four-leaved Allseed (Polycarpon tetraphyllum). #urbanplants
I'm writing a column for Bird Watching Magazine provisionally titled "It's behind you!" about missing bird sightings because you're looking in the wrong direction. I'd love to quote others (brief please!) anecdotes if you've had any experience of that? Please message me directly. Many thanks. ππ
Within reach of Crystal Palace, London on Sun 21 June? Please do join me on the summer solstice to celebrate the publication of my book **Wild Pavements** & support a very special indie bookshop, Bookseller Crow. Details/tickets in thread π #naturewriting #urbannature #urbanbotany #indiebookshop
Yes it absolutely is! David & I spent a fruitful and companionable morning last week scanning the #WildPavements near Maida Vale tube station in London for interesting #pavementplants. #urbannaturalists

I've been squeezing in some #urbanplant surveys & workshops around book promo events. Yesterday I was at the @nhm-london.bsky.social learning to id #flies with the inspirational @flygirlnhm.bsky.social. This little cutie is a Soldier Fly (Oxycera).
Taking stock 3 mths into book promo. Reflections: 1) What a diff a fab publisher marketing team makes; 2) Some indie bookshops are v, v good at hosting buzzy author events; 3) Def worth exploring other promo ops too #1stBookDiary #naturewriting #urbannature freelancenaturewriter.com/2026/05/19/w...
Drinks reception in the shop from 3:30 to 4:30pm - (Β£5 ticket includes refreshments.) And for anyone who fancies it, I'm leading an actual Wild Pavements walk from 2:30 to 3:30 from the shop too, but walk numbers will be necessarily limited. See link to ticket choices in thread π.
