In this webinar, Harvey Locke & Leroy Little Bear shared a summary of their paper Nature Positive: halting and reversing biodiversity loss toward restoring Earth system stability. They reminded us that biodiversity isn't a luxury, it's essential for life as we know it. Here were 2 takeaways: 1/
New studies show that global warming is changing hailstorm patterns, making them more frequent and damaging in certain regions. Conditions conducive to hail are shifting towards the poles, leading to increased risk in areas like northern Europe, Canada, and parts of Australia and New Zealand.

This World Ocean Day, AMS Headlines explores the multidisciplinary study of the ocean’s effect on our climate and weather ⚓ As complex as the marine environment is, we want to thank the dedicated people who seek a deeper understanding of the Earth’s primary climate regulator: https://bit.ly/43n4sPC
A Perspective in Communications Earth & Environment reveals that Arctic marine heatwaves are shaped by processes absent from lower-latitude oceans: sea ice modulates heat fluxes, stratification, and temperature variability. go.nature.com/4vzLOzQ 🌊🧪
By 2050: up to 20% of Earth becomes “barely liveable.” 5 billion+ people face water scarcity at least 1 month/year. 80%+ of global croplands face water stress. 140M+ forced to migrate in Africa, S. Asia & Latin America alone. www.canada.ca/content/dam/...
Climate change poses an escalating threat to global brain health and is increasingly linked to stroke incidence, outcomes, and inequities in prevention and treatment. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
A new study in Geophysical Research Letters provides robust confirmation that northern hemisphere atmospheric circulation on the largest scale is responding to #GreenhouseGas emissions. 🔓Read the #OpenAccess article for free: doi.org/10.1029/2026... #AGUPubs #Atmosphere
