so, i always say that evil dead rise is an inspiration for my book - but i’ve never talked about the MOST important inspiration, the very thing that started my love for Romanian folklore in general. Resident Evil Village, at first i fell in love with Alcina Dimitrescu, yes (1/2)
but it became so much more than that!! i started replaying and paying attention to the creatures and doing research and realizing they were actual folklore creatures and it genuinely fascinated me. i’ve gained inspiration from yellowjackets and more recently, carmilla and now cabernet (2/2)
i read carmilla and now have some more inspiration for the vibes of my story and i’m IN LOVEEEE
sheep are a huge symbol for Romania, and they are also a big symbol in horror as well! the idea that the forest is playing tricks on their minds and these creatures are basically rotting is a bit similar to a scene in yellowjackets where a deer they found when starving was rotten. #HorrorWritersChat
i don’t believe that i would as yellowjackets is good in its own way. there are just certain things from the show that really stuck with me, and the kind of atmosphere it created intrigued me and i knew i wanted to encapsulate that in my story #HorrorWritersChat
i got so busy after posting stuff about my story but you guys got me so excited to post more stuff here about it 🥹
i love feeling inspired ✨
honestly, i’d go back to the first time i read one of countess’s stories!! she is the reason why i’m so into folklore now and i wouldn’t have it any other way. her writing truly inspired me beyond belief and i am grateful to be her writing buddy @countess-sappho.bsky.social #HorrorWritersChat
the vibes of my sapphic Romanian folklore inspired horror book that i am trying to achieve 🩸
