Some stick-friends.
This was a combined effort of @jessica-dobson.bsky.social, @michaelnicolai.bsky.social, @diederikstrubbe.bsky.social , @katriendewolf.bsky.social , @lilianadalba.bsky.social and others not on bluesky!
Yesterday I had the pleasure of presenting our research on phasmid eggs at the international stick insect meeting organized at the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences. A big thanks to the organizers for the opportunity and creating such an amazing event!
Starting of with Phasmedia - Wietse Chanet talking about his work!
Big day today for the stick insect enthousiasts. Day filled with interesting talks and many bugs! @tbuescher.bsky.social

We found that across 300+ species the UV–visible reflectance is consistently correlated, but visible–NIR relationships are much more variable across taxa. This suggests partial decoupling of visual and thermal traits across evolutionary lineages! open access link: dx.doi.org/10.1002/ece3...
How are different parts of the solar spectrum linked in animal reflectance? That is the question we asked in our latest study led by @jgoldenbergevo.bsky.social, published in @journal-evo.bsky.social open access link: dx.doi.org/10.1002/ece3...
Mammal colours boring? Guess again (mostly a note to myself). Superstar Jess has been finding iridescence colours across mammals! royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/...
Back again with more cool mammal updates, this time in maybe the coolest mammal - the platypus! Thrilled to share the second chapter of my PhD, out today in Biology Letters. We found spherical hollow melanosomes in the fur of the platypus, maybe a total vertebrate first! doi.org/10.1098/rsbl...
Super happy to share the first chapter of my PhD, published in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface ✨🐀 royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/... Iridescence in mammals is not as rare as we thought, but it’s all created in the same way!

Iridescent coloration is a vibrant structural colour that is widespread in nature, but in mammals is thought to be limited. Although multiple rodent and Eulipotyphlan species have been anecdotally des...
