I genuinely believe that this reflects Vanderbilt and Wash U's efforts to cast doubt on the disciplines that are doing the most to challenge AI's takeover of everything at a time when both universities are making massive, massive investments in AI.

For some reason the chancellors of Vanderbilt and Washington University commissioned a study on general state of the humanities with no faculty from their respective universities and 40% of the authors from a single school (NYU). While we're at it, curious how much these folks got paid for this

I'll just note that only 1 of the 10 authors of this study works at a public university; not one is from a small liberal arts college, community college, or urban university system. But sure, please keep lecturing me about so-called "viewpoint diversity"
