This. It is one thing to say “we ought not to have left - we should reverse that decision”. It is another to say “we believe in the European project and want to join.” This is why I agree with those who say that we should stop talking about “rejoin” and start framing it as “join”.

This may true over the long term but the article strikes me as far too hopeful about the timescale. The logic of Martin's original prediction is that Westminster would already be talking about rejoining. But it isn't. It can't even confront free movement. No, we've still got a long road ahead.
