It was always quite predictable that potential Labour leadership candidates would latch onto 🇪🇺 as a way to win support of membership. Streeting has now guaranteed that Burnham and other leadership candidates will have to have an answer about their views.

Politically, this is quite a smart smooth by Streeting too. I think Burnham is on record as saying similar things in the past, but it doesn’t help him now in a Reform facing constituency. He can disavow, but then that might hurt him with a future Lab selectorate.
