The multi-level misdirection in the monologue is magnificent – it exploits audience familiarity with genre conventions to lead the viewer down the garden path. The assassin is played by Paul Chapman who was the nephew of Edward Chapman, famously Mr Grimsdale in all those Norman Wisdom films.
Full decade before Tarantino had hitmen chewing the fat, writer Roger Marshall did the same but in a very English, understated way. Watch this scene from the Grasser episode of Travelling Man – so subtle you might miss the killer punchline. Goatee Man is a sheep farmer who moonlights as an assassin.
FACE OFF Twisted dark comedy about a troubled South Asian couple, reeling from a miscarriage and now separated by the first Covid lockdown – she shielding with her sick mum, he furloughed alone with his Xbox – and how a 60-minute real-time Zoom exposes lies, betrayals and ends in a brutal takedown.
Today's the day! If you're in London and free this afternoon - there's still time to book a free ticket for a rehearsed reading of my dark comedy (which has some thriller twists) "Face Off". As an added incentive, there's now after-show drinks (tea & coffee) and you can mingle with the creatives!
Two more days to go until the rehearsed reading of my new dark comedy "Face Off" on Tuesday 9th June at 3pm, BOLD Theatre, Elephant & Castle. FACE OFF One lockdown Zoom Call. Sixty minutes. Revelations. Rage. Revenge. Tickets are free but you will need to book. www.boldtheatre.com/whatson/p/pl...
