Another economist. Views and bad hot takes are my own, if even that. Likes & RTs =/= endorsements.

If Labour had not made its tax pledges, it would almost certainly have won a smaller majority. But it would have had more actual power to govern. It doesn't matter how many seats you hold, if you brick up the levers of power. You end up either breaking your promises or breaking public services.
They definitely won't regret this
Good concise summary. Does leave the question hanging though where might the fragility start to show if we keep heading in this direction.
Every time I fly I remember the news story about the passenger who reported her aisle mate under suspicion of terrorism bc he was doing math. It was an economist solving a differential equation for a model. 😂

What a wonderfully written introduction to economic dualism, courtesy of @jwmason.bsky.social Nothing like a good opening to whet your appetite for a book.

The u-turns are accelerating. He'll be airboune in no time.
A reminder: at the local elections, more Labour voters said they didn't vote for Labour because we were too harsh on immigration, not because we were too soft.
They did this to *kids* involved in the London riots of 2011. Absolutely no excuse not to do it here. And these people proudly post evidence of their crimes online.

The pledge not to raise general taxation is basically this government’s original sin and a synecdoche of everything that’s wrong with it - timid, and forced into a series of unpalatable, harmful and unpleasant manoeuvres that please literally nobody because of its timidity.
