This is true *but* we have also seen an increase in archaeological research on inequality/lack thereof that I think is interesting and productive…so something genuinely to be said for it as “provocative”

Every time I've seen Graeber and Wengrow discussed in an academic context, it's the same thing: everyone agrees that it is 'stimulating' and 'timely' because you are required to say something nice and then everyone also concludes that it utterly fumbles their specific period of expertise.
