If you just write an answer with no work and it's wrong, there's no way to go back and figure out what step tripped you up along the way
And even if the answer is right, that doesn't mean you actually got to it correctly, for all they know you made a mistake that ONLY works in this specific problem

The other part is that reading comprehension is a skill that can be learned and practiced, and no one is owed skill
You should be able to *access* the book regardless of ability. But you're not owed understanding

Accessibility when it comes to art is about having access to it, not necessarily being able to understand or fully engage with it on an intellectual level
I dunno who needs to hear this, but math teachers asking you to show work isn't just needless busy, it's actually really important
It not only makes sure to show you actually understand how it works, but it also makes it easier to actually teach you what you did wrong
