Eyal Weizman’s Ungrounding is a harrowing and unforgettable account of the Gaza genocide. Among the best I have read. He writes: “Ungrounding is not a by-product of military confrontation but rather its aim. The monochrome desert of upturned soil is the material signature of Israel’s genocide.”
Mustafa Barghouti explains that Israel has violated the Gaza ceasefire 3,000 times, has killed 930 Palestinians, is still restricting the entry of aid, & is occupying 60% of Gaza (soon to be 70%) when the ceasefire agreement says they should be withdrawing.
Pleased to see new displays of tatreez and thobes in Bristol’s Palestine museum. It’s the only such museum in England. Must visit if you haven’t already!
Over 3,000 families in Gaza’s Abu Asi Orphan Camp have been affected by a new evacuation warning My friends in Gaza have housed 61 women & 219 children, but this is a fraction of those needing shelter https://substack.com/@rgould/note/c-273539005?r=7not0&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=notes-share-action

Academic freedom is often treated as a settled democratic value. Rebecca Ruth Gould argues the opposite: that it is fragile, selective, and deeply shaped by power. 🔗

She also talks about the courage to speak out on your convictions, and the small subtle shifts that could lead liberal democracies down a road towards fascism.

The world should know that the evacuation orders that made headlines in 2023 continue under the cover of media blackout and lapsed attention spans. This image from Juthoor News shows displaced people...
