Robo Assault has unused animations for flying while being controlled (as in entering a canon and a player inputting left/right/etc to steer them.) This suggests that at some point in development, they were a playable character but was scrapped. Video from GabrielOflTM

He does everything for his ego. He wants to be the smartest scientist ever, and Dave's ability to effortlessly make new inventions makes him incredibly bitter that HE has to try and Dave doesn't.
