1/n During 2020–2023, labour supply (number of working hours) in high-exposure sectors was 1.52% lower (~24 hours/ worker/year) in highly exposed occupations (agri, forestry, mining, quarrying, & construction) due to higher temperatures compared to 1965–1994 baseline. #CMCC @granthamlse.bsky.social

2/n In our 2nd indicator in @countdowneurope.bsky.social 2026, @profejzrobinson.bsky.social & I demonstrate clear evidence of lower labour supply in high exposure sectors in Southern Europe due to increasing temperatures. Highest declines are estimated in Canary Islands, ES, Cyprus, & Attica, GR.

Access to sufficient nutritious food is already made harder by climate change, & will get worse in the future. Agrifood systems account for approx 1/3 GHG emissions, so we need a rapid transition to low carbon diets plus greater efforts to adapt & build resilience. @countdowneurope.bsky.social
