There is a very specific kind of weirdly aggressive secularism you run into about people like Talarico on here, and I'm sure it manifests in real politics *somewhere* but there is a lot of very overt Christianity in the Democratic party, I would even say it's basically the default.
Remarkable the extent to which your typical "history" influencer is ignorant of the actual requirements for a PhD. Yes, if you want to do a PhD in virtually any historical subject at all, you will need the relevant languages! You cannot do research otherwise!
If there's anything the 21st century has shown us, it's that most people are not intellectually ready for cynicism. The vast bulk of political actors (whether soldiers, leaders, or bureaucrats) in history were ideologically motivated. People like to believe in things.
