We're hugely grateful to the many colleagues who contributed to the project, and for the financial support of several societies and institutions. Do have a look at our acknowledgments: germanpeasantswar.web.ox.ac.uk/acknowledgem...
Naturally we’ll also share our materials right here on BlueSky, so that colleagues who can’t make it to the conference will be able to access our work.
Our team is all set to launch our Visualising the Destruction of Convents and Monasteries in the German Peasants’ War project at the Society for Renaissance Studies conference tomorrow. We can’t wait to share with you what we’ve been working on for the last year-and-a-bit! Come see us in panel 2.4
It's launch day! We're at the @srsrensoc.bsky.social conference in Bristol to share our work on Visualising the Destruction of Convents and Monasteries in the German Peasants War. Ours is the first-ever attempt to quantify and map the full destruction of monastic houses during the war. #skystorians
Now live! We've created the most comprehensive map to-date of religious institutions in the German Peasants' War (1524-26), identifying many more affected institutions than existing source lists. Find our map, case studies, and much more on our website: germanpeasantswar.web.ox.ac.uk #skystorians
Martin Luther, 1483–1546. Lucas Cranach the elder who d. #otd 16 Oct 1553 (Bristol Museums, Galleries & Archives) Cranach, a close friend of the ex-Augustinian Luther, painted this in 1525, the year of Martin's marriage to the former Cistercian nun Katharina von Bora.
Couldn't make the lecture so really enjoyed this by Lyndal Roper: about the Peasants' War, but also about popular history writing and why it needs to be more creative and less constrained by chronological narrative www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWPM...
Final reminder about Lyndal Roper's talk on Thursday at the @ihrscb.bsky.social on 'Turbulence and the German Peasants' War of 1524-6'. Register here for in-person or online attendance: www.history.ac.uk/news-events/...
