AI cannot destroy higher education without help from professors. Sadly, many are choosing to help. Peer review, GTAs and GRAs, tenure assessments, feedback to students . . . these are all systems we need to protect, not delegate to the robot prediction machines.

Oh my god I almost fell out of my chair when a senior colleague told me he was using ChatGPT to evaluate a tenure file as an external reviewer because he wanted to help the candidate but didn’t have the time to read all the work.

I am not remotely a lawyer, but I think if you agree to review a manuscript for a press and then feed that manuscript into AI without the permission of the author, the author should be allowed to sue you into poverty.

Don't write your manuscript reviews using AI. DEFINITELY do not feed someone else's manuscript into AI and have it write the review for you.
