Eels are basal teleosts with elongated bodies. Many species have massively expanded vertebral counts (Japanese eel: 120 vertebrae).
The Aulehla Lab studies somitogenesis — the embryonic process that gives rise to vertebrae — and we wanted to understand how this unfolds in eels.
