Both solar and wind are great. Nuclear however does beat both in terms of less environmental damage from mining per megawatt. I did the math on this a long time ago; and I did it based on a 20-year period since that's the avg life of a solar panel.

Solar and wind are both significantly cheaper and more effective than any other form of energy. It only “depends” whether you are lying about that fact. (And fossil fuel prices have skyrocketed since the data in this graph was collected.)
WHITESIDES: The truth is the cheapest form of energy on a per unit basis is daytime solar. Is that not true?
