Capolavoro 🎨 alert 🚨! What is the role of gene body methylation in invertebrates? Despite extensive speculation linking it to plasticity and environmental responses, its mechanistic effects and heritability remain unclear. Our take out in @natecoevo.nature.com: www.nature.com/articles/s41... 1/
1/ A new preprint from my lab is out now: “The E. coli DEAD box ATPase, CsdA, is a NAD+ capped RNA binding protein” lead by my graduate student Kaustuv Das with the assistance of @childerslab-pitt.bsky.social -pitt.bsky.social and @schraderlab.bsky.social www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
New in The Innovation Life! In this review, Rong et al. use domestic pigs as a model to examine how selection intensity and gene flow shape trait genetic architecture prior to reproductive isolation. doi.org/10.59717/j.x... #susscrofa #Evolution #GeneFlow

Understanding biodiversity trends requires long-term monitoring and baseline data. This analysis shows 20th century insect declines in Switzerland & more recent partial recoveries and identifies drivers of both trends. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Does your designed active site already exist in nature? Is an uncharacterized protein hiding a catalytic site or a pocket? Folddisco answers both, searching millions of structures for a 3D motif in seconds. @natbiotech.nature.com 🧬 📄 www.nature.com/articles/s41... 🧵1/7👇

Finally out in @Cellcellpress! Proteins with long IDRs are prone to misfolding during protein synthesis. This is prevented by mRNA 3′UTRs that act as mRNA-based IDR chaperones. www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...
11/ We are able to show that CsdA is able to enhance RNA decapping by NudC. Importantly this enhancement in the absence of ATP, suggesting that it is a result of the two proteins interacting, and not CsdA acting as a helicase on the RNA substrate freeing the 5′ end for NudC to act on.

Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Published online: 22 May 2026; doi:10.1038/s41594-026-01816-5In this study, the authors use the Caenorhabditis elegans model organism to show that maternal microRNAs are delivered from the intestine to embryos by the yolk, where they regulate gene expression and promote stress resilience in offspring.
