The violent racism unfolding in Northern Ireland is shocking, but sadly unsurprising. What is unfolding follows a pattern of collective punishment, fuelled by the far right and enabled by weak political responses.

This observation illustrates exactly what is wrong with social media platforms. Celebrities and persons of influence, or seeking influence, would rather support these cancerous organs than forego the influence they think they derive from their use. Musk exploits this flaw to its full potential.
