I met Emi during my 1st year of college in 2014. She held a workshop on disability & transness, teaching us about effective organizing. Emi showed me that trans women can develop new language about our lives, and what that means to protect each other, regardless of how respectable we are.
After battling cancer, Emi Koyama passed away yesterday. I hope we can take a moment to learn from her and appreciate her unwavering commitment to her communities. Transfeminism uplifts everyone, and Emi was instrumental in theorizing it for the first time.

It turns out the woman with the cheese addiction who just led the farcically racist Gracie Mansion protest paid someone to create her Wikipedia page.
Rest in power, Emi Koyama. Emi's activism and writing had a profound impact on the trans movement over the past 30+ years. After coining the term transfeminism in the early 1990s, she spearheaded many feminist, trans, disability, decrim, AAPI, and intersex groups.
Peter Thiel fleeing to Argentina is the funniest possible thing right now. He moved to Buenos Aires' whitest neighborhood, which is also known for harboring SS commander Herbert Kuhlmann. Does this signal a declining Trump regime, or is Thiel just trying to avoid more taxes?
JK Rowling is now represented by a trans person, Dr. Q Manivannan, in the Scottish Parliament.
One year ago, trans women held an iconic topless protest outside Scottish Parliament. I love it when trans women hold topless demonstrations. If they're arrested, the state must admit they're women. If they aren't, it exposes the obvious absurdity of defining trans women as male.

Thanks to everyone who came out for our LA events! ☀️ I’ll be back in town soon. 📚 It’s been a tough year for LGBTQ+ authors. Publishers aren’t buying trans books and unis aren’t hiring us. But I know with more support from readers, authors, and literary orgs, the best years are still ahead of us!

A year after the topless protest outside Scottish Parliament, the legislature has its first two trans members, one of whom represents JK Rowling in Edinburgh. We can't credit this solely to the protest, but it seems to have energized a movement of trans people across the country.
This month marks one year since Before Gender first hit the shelves! So far, it's been on several bestseller lists, used in 2 Supreme Court cases and sold in bookstores on every continent. Trans lit may be under attack, but if there's one thing our community knows, it's how to survive under pressure
