Excellent new commentary by my colleague Nick Witney! ecfr.eu/article/comb...
Blaming Dassault for FCAS’s failure is fashionable - and Dassault and Eric Trappier certainly share part of the blame! But it’s too easy to pretend it was all them. My comments in the long France24 Spotlight interview from last night.
Mercedes Benz and drone company Tytan to work together on “Drone Defender” www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/m...
!!!! This is ridiculous indeed. Again: how did they screw up the cancellation announcement so badly when they were preparing it for months?! #FCAS (Translation: we STILL don’t have the official FCAS jet cancellation announcement even though officials already talk about it)
Interesting. “Under tighter national rules imposed in May, owners must register almost all drones with local authorities, transmit real-time flight data and get approval in advance for flights in extensive restricted zones in most cities.”
Really curious to see whether they can pull this off
This strikes me as the most important point: Europeans do not only need to rethink how to *organise* NATO without the US but also how NATO without the US can *fight*.

They were right to stop a project which just wouldn’t work - it’s still a bad signal regarding Europe’s independent defence capabilities. My comments from last night on the FCAS jet cancellation.
