every now and then you get someone who harps on someone’s style. like “RAITA’s designs are so ugly, it’s like they don’t know anatomy” and idk, i feel like for these professionals, they could draw you something normal if they wanted to? and they could draw in different styles too if asked to
i feel like there are layers to something like “i like jrpgs and anime” because a fair amount say they’re fans but then they go and make a chrono-trigger-like with pixel graphics and general nostalgia designs that fail to inform me how deeply they’re into the subculture of today
it’s hard to describe. maybe it’s just that the more you appeal to the audience like what you’re making is a celebration of years bygone, the more ostentatious you sound
on the flipside, a different dev that manages to tweet out “reimu” and “bakushin” in quick succession, and is not strictly making a “jrpg,” i find myself being very much comfortable with lol
like, it doesn’t take that much effort to draw a curve a different way or to proportion parts differently, right lol
and it takes more skill to know how to break rules than to follow them
people like this have probably drawn from real life more than you would believe
that’s just me tho. subculture to me is alive and ever changing and i’m always going with the flow, but it feels like some of these people actively hate modern trends
We have a new Xenoblade!!! Can't wait to see more of Eleanor!
