Assistant Professor @geogdurham.bsky.social. I don’t know what I do either. Ice and Antarctica I’m told. Also part-time fitba fan and listener of music wholly or predominantly categorised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats. He/Him.

The European Commission and Australia have finished negotiations to work together on the Horizon Europe program. This is a large project for research and innovation that has a total budget of 93.5 billion euros. Australia will focus on the second part of the program, which covers important areas like climate, energy, and digital technology. This new agreement is a big step for the scientific partnership between the two regions. Starting in January 2027, Australian organizations will have the same rights to EU funding as countries that are members of the European Union. This makes it easier for them to lead research teams and work on important scientific projects. Currently, many countries outside the EU already work with Horizon Europe. Australia has shown strong research skills in the past, with a high success rate for their project applications.
