This year's keynote address by Jo Banner of the @descendantsproject.bsky.social set the tone for our 2026 Workshop. We cannot build coalitions without understanding the history of the people and places we're working with. And we cannot be resilient without making time for grief and rest. #hazws2026
Jo Banner’s keynote may be the most powerful in the 10 years I’ve been attending the Hazards Workshop. I only lived in Louisiana for 6 years, but still consider it one of my homes. That feeling of home would not be possible without the culture of the peoples who descended from this land. #HazWs2026
The first plenary of the day begins at 8:00 a.m. #hazws2026

Thank you @hazcenter.bsky.social for hosting such wonderful speakers! Learning from @descendantsproject.bsky.social Jo Banner and those on the plenary on sustainable coalition building by sharing their stories, insights, and work was inspiring. #CoalitionBuilding #CommunityPreservation
If you're attending this year's Workshop, it's not too late to run Wednesday's Disaster Dash! Fundraise for the William Averette Anderson Fund and get this awesome t-shirt too! Just find the registration desk in the atrium of the Omni Interlocken Hotel. hashtag#hazws2026
There's so much to look forward to on day two of the 2026 Natural Hazards Workshop! #hazws2026
