Funniest workshop I went to in grad school was an even split of cognitive scientists (slides), linguists (15 page 10pt handout), and philosophers (reading prepared text verbatim!!!) We were all so scandalized by each others' talk norms, it was a great ice breaker.
“You can change people’s minds, or you can change the people.” - Bryan Buescher, on cave conservation. City of Alachua won’t protect its groundwater? We’ve now got two members elected to the board, and two more seats going up next year 🔥
We made an open repository of close relationships measures. Our goal is to catalogue all of the published self-report measures in relationship science.
You can help us expand the database by suggesting measures you tend to use in your research, or by uploading your own measures!

New: NSF is tightening its conflict of interest rules in what could be a headache for the understaffed agency. Starting in August, reviewers will no longer be able to participate in a panel with any proposals from their own institution.
My reporting for @science.org:
RelaScale is a searchable database of psychological measures and constructs for relationship researchers.
Researchers say changes could further burden the understaffed agency

Break for raffles!! They are raffling off sidemount BCs, gas fills, gift cards and more as a fundraiser for the CDS. I won some Dive Rite cave markers!
The Woodville Karst Plains Project (WKPP) has been using diver-assisted underwater ROVs to map underwater cave systems at Wakulla and now Lafayette Blue and other Florida caves.
Q&A: Are maps accessible to public? No (!?!? Unclear why not)

When a mine accidentally hit groundwater and flooded, cavers and sump divers from the NCRC/NSS-CDS went in to find a missing miner. They were unsuccessful; he was found four days later in a pool after mine was pumped out #NSSCDS
Come to a cave diving conference with me! I’m at the annual meeting off the NSS-CDS (National Speleological Society - Cave Diving Section) in Alachua Florida today
Starting off strong with doughnuts and raffle tickets 🍩 🎟️

There was often way too much on any one slide. You have 5-15 minutes in total, and I found myself frantically scanning each slide to figure out where I was supposed to look and what I was supposed to take away. This is too much cognitive load for the audience.
