Posting the first-hand account above because people just don't see this stuff, as the role of U.S. Colored Troops has always been underplayed. It comes from an obscure Confederate memoir published in 1911 called "Army Life of Frank Edwards." Edwards served in the Company D, 35th Georgia Infantry.
