A 6th-grade aptitude test told Jack Graver he'd be a teacher. Everyone laughed.
He was dyslexic, had failed German four times, and a Latin professor even asked him not to come back.
The test, it turns out, was right. 🧵

✍️ Student editors in A&S are gaining a career edge by turning a passion for writing into hands‑on experience.
Through their involvement in campus publications, they’re preparing for jobs in writing, publishing and advocacy.

Earth sciences professor @jaywen.bsky.social's water quality research runs from the Shale Network to fieldwork with Syracuse residents on City Line Brook.
He was just named a 2026 '40 Under 40' rising star in environmental science.
🧪 What makes humpback whales "talk" differently? Is your phone derailing your workout? Are Northeasterners really that rude?
These are just a few of the questions A&S students explained at last month's Undergraduate Research Festival.
🌌 Congratulations to Professor Emeritus Peter Saulson on his election to @nasonline.org.
Prof. Saulson built A&S' gravitational-wave research group and helped lead @ligo.org's first direct detection of gravitational waves in 2015.
Have you ever wanted to run a marathon? 🏃
On #GlobalRunningDay, take advice from chemistry professor and three-time Boston runner Jonathan French.
His message: build gradually and be patient. You can't fake your way through 26.2 miles.

🧪 Copper deposits trace back to magmatic systems up to 19 miles underground.
Emerson Long ’26 spent the past year recreating those conditions in Jay Thomas' lab, studying how copper splits between magma and fluid at depths most prior research hasn't reached.
60 years as an @sumathematics professor later, he's written five books and dozens of papers across multiple fields.
One 1975 paper of his was dismissed by its referee as "of no practical value." A decade later, it became foundational to algorithm design 📐
He retired this spring, having served under more than half of all chancellors in @syracuseu.bsky.social's history.
