FACT OF THE DAY. 30 March 1981. US President Ronald Reagan was shot and wounded outside Washington DC hotel by John Hinckley Junior. The president was shot in his left lung, which collapsed. The bullet just missed his heart. Reagan’s popularity soared after the assassination attempt.
