How much their poor design limits the impact of the papers they publish?

As someone in an adjacent social science, I’ve basically stopped bothering to track down APA-published articles. More often than not I end up in a gate-keeping loop. Even if I get through, the effort-to-reward ratio is typically too high (again, as an outsider to the discipline).
