my wife's first language isn't English and early in our relationship she'd fall back to French if she couldn't think of a word. One that stuck because I found it so bewildering at the time is now the household word for any screw, nail, or fastener: a "bees"

hit me with your hyperspecific friend or family slang. when i was a kid my friend once ate too many sour patch kids and then had some ketchup on fries and it was painful because of how acid blasted his tongue was. he told this story a few times, so "a ketchup story" came to mean an oft-repeated tale
