We are in an age of ascendant magical thinking. Skepticism is low and there are all kinds of people out there *in power* who believe or claim to believe in all sorts of woo. Teleportation, dream walking, prophecy. Believing untrue things is bad enough; believing in and crediting magic is suicidal.
