Just like gang laws and surveillance practices, the media also revels in targeting “marginal” populations with new phrasing, framing and delineations of “correct” society and behavior. The Platner saga is going to be taught for years in journalism schools and sociology courses

About how this relates to NYT specifically: The Times systematically ran its reputation for fair, honest journalism into the ground with the trans community and others. It's coming back to bite them with folks not trusting their big investigated features, which is their own fault entirely.

If the end result is good, the reader should understand your key themes from the interviews (ie. Graham Platner has a history of unstable, perhaps violent behavior with women), they should have clear, corroborated examples, but they shouldn't see additional allegations you can't verify.
