On this day in 1497, a Cornish-led army approached Guildford, England under their leader Michael Jospeh An Gof. The army was marching to London to demand the return of the Cornish Stannary Parliament and an end to taxes.

Meryadoc is the patron saint of Camborne. A Cornish language play called Bewnans Meryasek (The Life of St Meryadoc) was written at Glasney College, Penryn, in 1504. It discretely presents England's King Henry VII as a tyrant.
