Anderson et al. map brain activity during cued imagination with individual-level precision fMRI and show that imagined scenes and inner speech recruit distinct networks whose engagement tracks self-reported vividness. Overlap with perception was mainly in association networks, rather than nearby sensory networks, suggesting that transmodal brain systems support mental imagery.
** Recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher! **
We are seeking a postdoc to help examine how brain networks might change within individuals across transitional times, such as adolescence & pregnancy!

Our paper is out! This has been years in the making.
We found that mental imagery and perception do share a neural substrate, but we see it in in higher-order transmodal networks rather than earlier sensory systems. Check it out!

Episodic memory depends on the coordination of local processing with global organization. This study reveals that episodic memory relies on brief, sparsely connected brain states coordinated across me...

We have a new preprint out where we studied which brain networks are engaged during mental imagery and self-generated thought.
We used a precision fMRI approach along with multidimensional experience sampling (mDES) to get trialwise self-reports from each participant about what they imagined.
