St John Scotland has recently delivered its 300th public access defibrillator (PAD) in the city centre as part of the St John in the City project. The charity identified the need for the life saving equipment some years ago, and has worked to provide both the funds and the training and has partnered with other organisations who host the devices.

The Edinburgh Taxi Drivers Association is on a day out to East Lothian - taking with them many children who are ill or A spokesperson for the taxi drivers said: “We leave Edinburgh Zoo Car Park at 10am heading under police supervision through the city and along the coast to Archerfield Walled Garden (between Gullane and Dirleton, East Lothian) with a stop outside S.Luca’s in Musselburgh to refill the water tanks and to eat as much ice cream as possible.

A donation of £1 million has been made to St Columba's Hospice in memory of Sir Tom and Lady Anne Farmer. This will be made over five years to support the hospice "wherever it is needed most". At first the monies will contribute to the Hospice's virtual ward service which allows people to be cared for at home. A spokesperson for the hospice explained that Sir Tom and Lady Anne were generous supporters of their work for many years.

National Records of Scotland has advised that according to the statistics from the first quarter of this year, the number of births in the country has continued to fall in 2026. There were 11,347 births registered between January and March. This is 2.6% lower than the quarter one average. There were 16,382 deaths in quarter one. This is 6.5% lower than the expected number of deaths (17,527).

Tram consultation – results “fairly inconclusive”
A consultation held last year between 25 August and 17 November by the council about the options for the north-south tram extension has returned "fairly inconclusive" results. As part of the survey, drop-in information events were conducted to raise awareness of both the proposal and the consultation. In addition market research commissioned from Progressive Partnership was carried out, in a mix of on street and at home interviews representing people from all 17 council wards.
