Layers. I think this technique isn't good for dull / muted colors at all, if it lacks some color in it - then it's extremely hard to layer those properly.

Today i'm drawing flubs. I don't remember the plot or else, but it's Flub brothers who long ago made me find out, that i like muscular guys more than regular ones x) Other than that, it is a wonderful example of ripe wacky post-modernism and horrific character design.
