Cuttlefish, squid, and octopuses have excellent memories, use tools, and are adept problem-solvers; they have a concept of time and are capable of delayed gratification. Some scientists think they are conscious (and possibly in a different way than us). www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Just like vertebrates, cephalopods — such as octopuses and squid — have elaborate brains. Neuroscientists are flocking to them for insights into how intelligence evolved.
