Our project aims to establish a collaborative #network in #archaeothanatology between France and Central Europe, thanks to the involvement of numerous laboratories and colleagues.

“In Austria, about 95% of all archaeological excavations each year take place within the context of preventive archaeology and are usually carried out by commercial archaeological providers. Naturally, these projects also bring about a large number of skeletal human remains.
The inaugural #lecture of our conference cycle, entitled: “Archaeoanthropology and the concept of the mortuary chaîne opératoire: A historical and technical perspective on funerary practices”
This presentation summarizes the current status of handling skeletal human remains in preventive archaeology and discusses its advantages, shortcomings and limitations with particular regard to curation and scientific analysis.
