You’d think that standing up for a NZer being mistreated in another country would be a cause that a populist foreign minister would leap at. It’s as if he actually approves of medieval immigration practices.
The NZ Government has received an invitation from the US to participate in a multilateral force to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Reports that the Maritime Freedom Construct would sit squarely under US Central Command illustrates that this is a just another US military operation.
"We have not heard an unequivocal statement from the NZ government making it clear that this is an illegal war. Until we hear that, I don't have any confidence ... that NZ is not going to sign up for some further US military engagement."
