A few takeaways: - Recommender algorithms (YouTube, X, etc) mostly ignore your subscriptions/follows/etc for pretty good reason - I had to deprogram myself from liking posts as a social gesture - The "cold start" problem is a challenge
Full speaker list is live. Really happy with the breadth of topics this year! Local models, game development, homelab setups, open social protocols... plus the classics like malleable software, sync, and tools for thought. This community keeps me optimistic about user empowerment in computing ❤️
Whatsapp is critical communication infrastructure in Europe. Made by a US company but with more customers in the EU. Regulation thus gets weird! davekeating.substack.com/p/europe-has... Like payment infrastructure (Visa/Mastercard/Apple Pay), EU could benefit from more digital sovereignty.
