In Chinese folklore, the tides are not moved by moonlight alone. They are pushed by the drowned. Known as Tide Ghosts or Tidal Workers, 潮鬼 / 潮工, these spirits were once people who died in the water. After death, river gods record their names and bind them to the waves. 1/2
