I must add that doing/reinventing things yourself can be really fun!
But if you are hours deep into trying to make something work that’s just out of your expertise it’s probably a good idea to check if there’s a solution built into the engine instead of banging your head against a wall

It’s an important lesson that I keep learning - that the thing you are trying to do in strange roundabout ways has probably been done before and you can just use that solution.
Something about the solution being a node named the exact same way as my google search was especially funny to me
I agonized for hours over trying to attach a vision cone to my monster’s head after I stopped controlling it in code and switched to using bones from Blender.
At some point I stopped myself and googled "Godot attach object to bone" and turns out there’s a BoneAttachment3D node that just does that
I’ve really gone a long way since those burnt cookies 3 years ago huh
