Such positive news that the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill will be reintroduced to Parliament to enable the House of Lords to finish the work they started in order to give dying people choice, compassion and dignity.

The answer to online harm is not censorship or surveillance. Our politics and policies must try to strike the balance between keeping children safe while preserving their freedom to think, question, and connect.

From a humanist perspective, children’s rights, freedom of expression, privacy, and access to information must be protected alongside safeguarding. Any policy in this area must be evidence-based, proportionate, and designed with young people’s voices at its heart. We need a rational approach.

Humanists UK recognises the genuine concern behind proposals to restrict children’s access to social media, including the need to protect young people from exploitation, abuse, and harmful content. However, a blanket ban risks cutting off young people from vital sources of support and community.
