El Niño is officially here!
There is a chance it could be one of the strongest El Niños on record by this winter. It has little impact on the monsoon, but could boost tropical moisture later this summer and increase the odds of a wetter winter in New Mexico. #NMwx
🌡️The Metro's first 100° day of the year!
Los Lunas just hit 100°. #NMwx
Today was the hottest day so far this year for most of New Mexico. We'll see even hotter temperatures for some on Thursday. #NMwx
It was an active start to June for parts of New Mexico! Just not for Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and west-central/northwest New Mexico... Those areas saw very little no rainfall at all last week, but eastern parts of the state picked up over 3" of rain in some areas! #NMwx
A haboob is moving into Albuquerque from the west. This outflow from a thunderstorm west of the Metro. Expect 45 to 55 mph wind gusts and reduced visibility. #NMwx
⚠️ A Flood Watch is back in effect Wednesday for the Lincoln County burn scars. Slow-moving storms near Ruidoso and the Seven Cabins burn scar could dump over 1" of rain per hour, bringing another flash flood threat. #NMwx
A historic balloon flight is underway! Atlantic Explorer is attempting the first-ever transatlantic crossing in an open-basket hydrogen balloon. Albuquerque pilot Peter Cuneo is onboard, carrying a ristra inspired by the 1978 Double Eagle II flight. Follow along:

The monsoon high will start building over northern Mexico this weekend, bringing rain across the Sierra Made Occidental. This is a classic early season signal. We'll be watching for that to move north into the Southwest. Monsoon season officially begins June 15. #NMwx #AZwx

Storms are moving into the Albuquerque Metro from the west. They are capable of very gusty winds and blowing dust, along with a quick downpour and lightning. #NMwx
Albuquerque currently has the worst air quality in the U.S., with some sensors reaching Very Unhealthy and Hazardous categories. Dust and other pollutants are trapped in the Rio Grande Valley under a stagnant air mass. Air quality should improve later this afternoon. #NMwx
