New study finds a consistent negative association between insecticide use and insectivorous bird populations, based on 15 years of data from 2783 sampling plots in France. Less food? Fewer birds. 🐛🐦 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Declines in insectivorous bird abundance are related to increasing agricultural insecticide use New study analysed 15 years of bird monitoring data across 2783 sites in France and found negative association between insecticide use and insectivorous birds. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

We studied the impact of imidacloprid on 57 sedentary bird species across 🇫🇷 before (2013–2018) and after (2019–2022) its ban. 🐦🌱
📊 Key finding: Before the ban, sites without imidacloprid hosted 12.7% more insectivorous birds than treated sites. After the ban, the gap narrowed to 9% → a slight recovery, but far from a full population rebound
⚠️ Takeaway: ✅ Imidacloprid harms insectivorous birds (also shown in 🇺🇸 & 🇳🇱). ❗️But banning a pesticide alone isn’t enough—habitat restoration and ecosystem recovery actions are essential to help insects 🐞 and birds 🐦 bounce back.

🚨 New study published in AEE on the link between insecticide use and bird declines in France 🐦 Strong association between insecticide use and the population dynamics of insectivorous birds 👉 Where insecticide use increased, insectivorous bird populations declined and and vice versa urlr.me/Yt3rRx
