Court holds Google liable for false claims in AI Overviews. Seems significant. "A regular search engine just points to outside websites. But AI overviews generate 'independent, new, and substantive statements' by evaluating and combining content from various third-party sites" the-decoder
It's been great fun talking to @angusbylsma.bsky.social about coins, trade, the 'end of antiquity', and even a little bit about methods and questions in economics and economic history.
Let us have a rapid global campaign to have the Somalian referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan referee at least one match in Canada or Mexico. FIFA should facilitate, not impede, that. The Canadian/Mexican government should pursue it too

Landmark German ruling declares Google's AI Overviews are Google's own words and makes it liable for false answers
A German regional court has ruled that Google is directly liable for the content of its AI search overviews. According to the court, previous limited liability protections for search engine operators don't apply to AI overviews. In this case, Google's AI had falsely linked two publishers to fraud and made claims that didn't appear in any of the linked sources. The ruling could set a precedent for AI-generated content liability worldwide.

Désigné meilleur arbitre de l’année 2025 par la Confédération africaine de football, Omar Abdulkadir Artan s’est vu refuser l’entrée sur le territoire américain, samedi 6 juin. Il disposait pourtant d’un visa valide.

The next round of EU sanctions on Russia is due to be approved on July 15. The Irish Government must conclude its investigation into Aughinish Alumina well in advance. giftarticle.ft.com/giftarticle/...

This will go down as a major stain on FIFA and its World Cup before a ball has even been kicked. Infantino has been banging on about the most inclusive World Cup and Africa’s top referee can’t even get into the country. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/08/w...
