An amazing looking structure. The egg sac of Zelotes latreillei. @britishspiders.bsky.social
It's that time of year again! and much like the Flower Crab Spiders, Spider Spies is coming out of hibernation and running a second year. So if you want to be involved in investigating these colourful spiders and their flower using habits head over to our website foragingecology.com/spider-spies/
Because he hasn't had the opportunity to cover himself in soil particles yet, you can really make out the bicolour patterning. Rather natty looking thing!
A very impressive looking male Ozyptila scabricula, collected as a sub adult a moth ago right at the edge of a friable cliff slip near Land's End. A pretty identical situation to where I had it with @graemelyons.bsky.social on the Lizard in April. @britishspiders.bsky.social
Anyone any thoughts on this - I'm a bit stumped. Tm-IV present, I thought spines were 2-2-2-2 but might be 2-2-(2/1)-1. Slight head raise with eyes pushed together a bit. Tm in second half of leg (.6-.8?). @britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social @cofnod.org.uk
Whaaaaaaat!? Another one! Whilst looking for Altella lucida at the CWT Penhale reserve, we spotted three "ants" running incredibly fast across some scree. Nope, not ants, Micaria albovittata! Another clifftop rarity being found new to one of the most worked cliffs here! @britishspiders.bsky.social
The spiders did not disappoint this weekend - 4 lifers! Heliophanus apiatus and Tetragnatha pinicola with @chalkspring.bsky.social (pictured is another individual from today), as well as Cryptachaea riparia and Pachygnatha listeri (so it DOES exist...)
The mythical beast known as Trochosa spinipalpis from a local site (thanks @judywebb.bsky.social). After putting in hundreds of hours looking across southern England, I wasn’t disappointed! They really do look dark, almost earthy in the field.

Episinus sp, which I thought showed some features good for maculipes? It definitely has a white patch on the sternum. Beaten off of a large patch of Ivy growing down over a wall in the lane directly behind the house in Filton, S. Glos.
